2024 Excellence First Scholarship Awardees

ABIGAIL RICHARDSON, ALABAMA SCHOOL OF MATHEMATICS AND SCIENCE GRADUATE (C/O 2024)

Abigail is an ambitious and dedicated student with a clear vision for her future. Her love for children has helped her choose her future career as a pediatric orthopedic surgeon. Abigail plans to major in biology with a pre-med track at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She will also participate in the TEACH program, preparing her for teaching and managing middle schoolers and high schoolers. Having been an Eagle Scout, Abigail fully enjoys doing anything outdoors in her free time. We look forward to seeing the amazing impacts she will bring to future children's lives.


ELIZABETH MORRIS, HEWITT-TRUSSVILLE HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATE (C/O 2024)

Elizabeth’s love for fantasy games like Legend of Zelda has helped her choose her future career as a game designer. She has been accepted to attend Samford University and plans to pursue her major in Game Design and 3D animation. Elizabeth is one of the first students in the new 3D animation program, guaranteeing her an internship during her third year of study. Her creative side shines through various pursuits which include drawing, coding, sewing, and creative writing. We look forward to seeing Elizabeth use her creativity in her future career.


ERIKA LEMUS LOPEZ, GEORGE WASHINGTON CARVER HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATE (C/O 2024)

Erika Lemus Lopez was the valedictorian of her senior class at George Washington Carver High School and has big aspirations in the field of medicine. She plans to attend Samford University, majoring in biology, with the goal of becoming a pediatrician. Outside of her academics, Erika plays the cello and the ukulele and plans to audition for the orchestra at Samford. As a Salvadoran immigrant, Erika proudly earned the seal of biliteracy and serves as an interpreter for Spanish-speaking students. Her dedication to her studies, combined with her musical and linguistic talents, make her an outstanding role model with a promising future.


TY’JANAI DUNBAR, RAMSAY HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATE (C/O 2024)

Ty’Janai Dunbar graduated from Ramsay High School and is planning on pursuing her passion for mental health. She has been accepted to attend Wake Forest University and plans to major in psychology. Aside from science, Ty’Janai has a creative side that she loves to express through sketching, drawing, poetry, and writing stories. Her unique blend of scientific curiosity and artistic talent sets her apart as someone with both intellectual depth and creative flair.
